17-18 November 2005: Cotswold and Stratford-upon-Avon
Lee and I drove to Cotswold for a short two days holiday before I had to start on my JAR IR course in Norwich.

There are a lot more hills than around the Cranfield area (or anywhere in Denmark!). We went for a short walk at the Broadway Tower - the highest point in the Cotswold. Next day we drove by Stratford-upon-Avon. A nice old city with a lot of old houses - reminds me a little of Ribe in Denmark

9 November 2005: Lee flying his model plane for the first time
Lee spent a few evenings
to get his plane finished.
Today it was time to see if it could fly.

Checking the radio works okay

With just a small fuel tank it didn't take long before they had to refuel.

07 August 2005: Duxford Aviation Museum
Lee and I went to Duxford Aviation Museum to see old airplanes. They had some pretty cool ones which I cant remember the names of... Some of the aircraft we saw was: SR-71 Blackbird, Harrier, F4, F11 and a Huye. In their collection they also had one of the Concorde proto types. Its a lot smaller than I thought!

The engine for the SR-71 is quite big!!
The Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird is the highest flying and fasted manned jet aircraft. The first flight was done in 1962 and was used by the US Air Force from 1968 to 1997.

It was quite interesting to see the different types of engines now when I have to know about it for the JAA exams.

21 July 2005: Ferry flight from Cranfield via London to Redhill, UK

Today was my first flight since I left Florida in March. It felt really good to get airborne again. Lee (one of Cabairs helicopter instructors) asked if I wanted to join him on a ferry flight from Cranfield to Redhill. He allowed me to fly all the way. I thought I almost had forgotten have to fly, but it went pretty good.
The procedures when you fly a single engine helicopter in London is that you stay with in glide distance to the Thames, so in case you have a engine failure you can ditch into it...

Thank you Lee for letting me do the flight with you - it was really good fun

July 2005: My new home - but still on the same road!

Still to come..

I now have a nice garden where I can sit and read if the weather permits. The only bad thing is my neighbors. They like to play loud music - and the music is not very good!!

I have just moved in to a new apartment - on the same road but at the other end. I am now living at 13 Partridge Piece. The old place was a nice place, but when Tilde (Danish) and Levent (former Cabair instructor) offered me to stay in their apartment for free I decided to move. Levent moved to Manchester because of new job and Tilde went off to Denmark for four weeks holiday so they needed someone to look after their apartment. Lucky for me

9 June 2005: JAR ATPL exams at Silsoe
I had my first seven JAR ATPL the first week in June. We take the exams at Cranfield University in Silsoe - approximately 30 minutes drive from Cranfield. There were quite a lot of people doing their exams at Silsoe.

Now its just to wait until we get the results of the exams - should take no longer than 10 workdays.

9 May 2005: Airborne again!

We flew the red/silver AS355

Stuart to the left and the student to the right
Well, sometimes you just have to be lucky. I was done with ground school and was checking my emails, when Stuart (Cabair's chief pilot) walked by. He asked if I wanted to come with him out on a flight with a student in the AS355. Any one who knows me know I never say no to a flight - so I joined them on this transition flight in the AS355. It flies quite a bit faster than what I am used to... They practiced Q-stops, different approaches, some slopes and (one) engine failure on take of.

What I noticed most was the clockwise rotor direction, a right skid low attitude and the limited view from the cabin. It was nice to get airborne again - even though it only was as a passenger!

After 6 days in Mitchell Hall I was lucky and found a room I could rent. I have my own small room - but can use the rest of the apartment as well. As you can see my room is tiny...  So I normally study in the kitchen!
I borrow Jason's (the owner) bicycle to get to school every day. It works out  really good. Then I get to exercise just a little every day - and it's a cheap way to get to school as well!

April 2005: Mitchell Hall

I stayed at Mitchell Hall the first six days in Cranfield - but with a price of £25.25 a night it was too expensive!
