Instrument flying can be a little bit boring as an instructor! You often fly
on specific headings and altitudes from ATC. In the beginning there often are
quite a lot to help the students with though. They are often quite busy flying
and maintain given heading and altitude so radio is sometimes too much.
I got the following students through their instrument training:
- Brian Anderson did the part 141 IR course. I got him
after he was done with the simulator. He started the ground school in May.
Due to weather (FL in the summertime = TS), aircraft and especially stage
check pilot availability his was unable to finish his IR before the middle
of August.
- Bryan Maguire did part 61 IR. Bryan and I started our FAA PPL on the same time. But in May 2003 he joined the JAA CPL course at HAI
and I continued the easy way with FAA certificates.
- Corey Greene did the part 141 IR course. He started with the ground
school in May straight after his PPL. We did the R22 transition at the same
time as we did the simulator part of his IR. He passed his IR in the
beginning of August 2004.
- Eric Mowry flew most of his IR training with Sebastian. I got him
when he was close to finish stage II.
- Ingemar Dalen did the part 141 IR course and finished up just before
he went back home to Norway for Christmas.
- Jonathan Chabala did the part 141 IR in close to minimum time. We had
to go out and do a short flight in order for him to do his stage II check to
make sure he had the minimum hours required.
- Joel Valentin did the part 141 IR course and finished up in the summer
2004.
- Jørgen Li did the part
141 IR course. He is the
fastest student I have had for the IR course. He did not fail a single
lesson (or stage check!) and did his IR checkride with 25.4 hours of
simulated instrument time - only 0.4 more than minimum required to complete
the 141 IR course.
- Keith Janusziewicz flew the first of his IR with Gary. I finished his IR up
because Gary's visa run out.
- Marcus Hedtke is fastest student to start the R22 up and do the
instrument checks. We were normally ready to taxi with in a few minutes from
starting the engine. Marcus did his IR checkride when I were back in Denmark
on vacation i May 2004.
- Pierre van Veenhuyzen. I got him in the middle of his IR training
when his instructors visa expired. He finished his IR in July 2004.
- Remco Doeleman was as close as one can be to his IR without being
rated already when I got him. I only flew a few flights with him before I
could sign him off for his checkride.
- Rune Kyndal did the IR with Fergus and me. I did the beginning of
his IR training and Fergus continued when my visa expired.
- Lee Harris. Lee did his IR in the two weeks we were in Florida in
October 2005. The fastest student ever to get through an IR course. Well
done Lee
